Cosmetic Surgery Training - A guide to becoming a Cosmetic Surgeon
Training to become a cosmetic surgeon in the UK takes many years of training and supervision. This can be upto 15 years if you want to reach membership of BAAPS amd BAPRAS. You will have to study under an existing cosmetic surgeon whom you will assist and will eventually start operating on your own cosmetic surgery patients.
You might also want to get an NHS position where you perform plastic surgery in an NHS hospital on patients such as burns , cancer and reconstructive surgery. It usually common for plastic surgeons to specialise in a particular area of plastic surgey and will often go abroad for training and seminars to learn from other plastic surgeons around the world.
Some say the training of a cosmetic surgeon is never finished as you will always find new techniques and ways to refine your skills and by learning and sharing information with other like minded plastic surgeons.
Procedures such as breast reduction and other breast procedures such as a breast uplift as well as facial procedures such as a facelift or rhinoplasty are procedures that need a lot of experience and can require a great amount of skill.
Other cosmetic surgery treatments like breast implants or breast enlargement or tummy tuck and ear pinning although they require a lot of skill and experience are not as challenging for a fully trained specialist cosmetic surgeon.
